Mother's Day Hybrid Card

Today I have a really quick (well it was quick once I got the sentiment figured out in Word), Clean and Simple Mother's Day card to share with you.

The sentiment was created in MS Word with a free font (Saginaw Medium)
that I downloaded from  The font is colored to Early Espresso using the Stampin Up color codes.  I used naturals white cardstock for the base.  The flower was cut from Rich Razzelberry and Blushing Bride cardstock using the Blossom Party Sizzix Die from Stampin Up.

I used the layout from this week's Less is More sketch challenge.

I'm also including this in this week's CAS-ual Friday's Flowers Challenge.

THANK You  for stopping by and checking out my card today!

A Digital Freebie to Thank You!!

I'm excited to show you the digital paper I've been working on!  You might remember from a previous post that I created some digital paper with a chevron pattern.  I'm taking that digital pattern and making color families for all of the Stampin Up colors so that I will have custom DP to match all of my paper.

I thought it would be fun to offer the Subtles Collection as a FREEBIE to THANK my followers.
(I'm still working on the other color families)

Subtles Colors:  Rose Red, Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette, So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Baja Breeze, Bashful Blue, Marina Mist, Perfect Plum, Wild Wassabi

CAS-ual Friday Sketch Challenge

It's been a couple week's since I've had time to play along in the CAS-ual Friday challenge.  This week they have a sketch challenge.  Here is my "congratulations" card based on the sketch.

Stamps: Hero Arts Everyday Sayings
Paper: Bazzil White Textured, Night of Navy
Ink:  White Gel Pen
Accessories: Large and Small Star Punch

I'm still not sure about this card.  Yes, it's CAS, yes it follows the sketch (mostly).  My daughter loves this card, she's always so very sweet.  Still it is a very quick and easy card that you could use for a graduation or to congratulate someone so I thought I'd share it.

I punched the large star in the night of navy paper and then punched it out of the textured white cs and popped it in the opening.  The small star was just popped up on a glue dot.  I used a white gel pen to outline the stars and the border.  The sentiment was stamped with white ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

How do you like my red glitter background?  I've been noticing people putting pretty paper backdrops behind their cards and I thought I'd give it a try.

Here's the sketch in case you want to play along!!!

More Chevrons....

Today I have 2 cards to share with you.  I made them both for the Embellish Magazine Chevron Color Trends Challenge.

In my last post I mentioned that I don't have any chevron stamps or dies or designer paper.  Well, that is still the case.  So, I decided to design my own chevrons using Microsoft Excel.  The background paper I used for these two cards was created digitally by ME.  It's a close tie for me between my love for card making and my love for Excel.  Being able to combine these two makes me HAPPY!

 Here's my first card.......

I decided to make use of my extra paper and created a second card.....

Here's what my paper looked like when I printed out my chevron pattern:

I printed this page up with grey chevrons on grey paper.  I can easily change the color on this pattern to make it work with any project I'm working on.

I'd love to know what you think of my digitally created chevrons!  I did spend quite a few hours fussing with the pattern and in the end I'm happy with how they turned out.

Paper Players Color Challenge

I was super excited that my Bun in the Oven card was chosen as one of the Cut Above cards in last week's Paper Players Challenge.  This week they have a color challenge so I just had to join in the fun!  Here are the colors:

Paper Players Challenge # 90

These are just fabulous colors aren't they?
I've been seeing chevrons everywhere lately and I really thought these colors would look pretty with the chevron pattern.  I don't have any chevron stamps, dies or designer paper so I needed to figure out how to make them myself.  I only needed 3 supplies - paper trimmer, bone folder and scissors.

Here's my card:

Just in case you've been wanting to make chevrons, here are the step by step directions:

1.   Cut a strip of cardstock to 1" by 5.5".
2.   Score the 1 inch wide strip at 1/2 inch (straight down the middle)
3.   Flip strip to landscape and score at every 1/2 " until 5" (you'll have 2 rows of 1/2 inch squares)

4.  Cut triangles out to the middle score line along one edge

5.  Cut opposite triangles out on the opposite side.

That's it!  Really it wasn't too hard to do at all and I like the extra dimension that the score lines give to the pattern.

April Calendar Page and Desktop Wallpaper

Happy April!  It just feels like we're so much closer to summer once the calendar flips to April!  today I have my April Desktop wallpaper to share with you.

As you can see I'm sending SUNSHINE vibes through my wallpaper.  I created this calendar in My Digital Studio.  The background paper is Rock a Bye designer paper.  The flowers on the bottom are from Upsy Daisy and the circles are all just circle punches.  I changed the opacity on the circles and the flowers to make them a little more translucent.

You should be able to right click on this picture and set it as your desktop background.  If for some reason that doesn't work, please message me.

Are you ready for some more APRIL Inspiration?  My friends have made some great calendar pages too!  Check out these great blogs for more fun April Calendar Pages:

You Light Up My Life

CFC #46

I'm getting this CAS-ual Fridays challenge card in just under the wire.  This week's challenge is to create a card that was inspired by a song.  My card was inspired by Debby Boone's You Light Up My Life.

My thought here was to create the lamp base with the title of the song.  I typed the title in Microsoft Word and printed it out on PTI White cardstock.  Then I masked around the sentiment and sponged with yellow ink.  The lamp shade was pretty easy to make with my scallop trim border punch and a ruler to mark the angle for the cut so it would be even on both sides.  I added just a touch of bling with a few pearls.  Finally, I matted the image on a So Saffron base with a Basic Black frame.

This song was popular when I was 7 years old.  I remember that summer I would sing this song over and over again using a hollowed out fence post in my back yard to project my voice.  I'm sure the entire neighborhood appreciated my rendition of this song - LOL.

Here's the song.....

Happy 10th Birthday Emily

Today is my daughter's 10th Birthday!  Here's the card I made for her.  She is really into orange and yellow lately so I made the card to match her favorite colors.

This card measures 4.25 in x 6 in to allow for 3 flowers.  The flower is Hero Arts (Little Polka Dots Blossom Cling).  I stamped the flowers on So Saffron with versamark ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.  The flower centers are 1/2 inch circles punched from groovy guava.  I added some crystal effects and glitter to them.  Then I finished it with some glitter glue on each of the scallops.  The sentiment is from the Big Hugs stamp set, also by Hero Arts.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my card today!  I'm off to have a Birthday Funday with my birthday girl!!!!!

ETA:  In all my excitement yesterday from my daughter's birthday I forgot to link this to the A Blog Named Hero Play Favorites Challenge.  This week is the first challenge.  You can find the details HEREI just started using Hero Arts stamps this year but I already have some favorites.

Congratulations...on your Bun in the Oven

My sister in law and her husband are expecting their first baby so I've been working on a card to congratulate the new parents to be.  I found some great inspiration online for some really cute cards with the bun in the oven theme.  Here's my card.......

and the inside......

The sentiment is computer generated.  I printed the Congratulations on my Baja Breeze cardstock and the inside sentiment was printed on PTI White CS and taped inside the card.

The little cupcake on the front and inside were both paper pieced.

Since I don't have a die cut for an oven (or a Gypsy or Cricuit for that matter), I had to make my own oven with the supplies I had.

I used 3 Punches to make the oven:
  1. SU Owl Punch
  2. SU Cupcake Builder Punch
  3. Corner Rounder Punch

Here is the recipe for the Oven:

Oven:   2 3/4" x 3" certainly celery - I made a mate around that 2/16" larger than the base in chocolate chip

Oven Door:  1 3/4" x 2 1/8"- chocolate chip and vellum

Knobs:  SU Owl Punch Eyes - Chocolate Chip
SUCupcake Builder Punch Circles  - Certainly Celery

Stamps:  Inkadinkado, Birthday Cupcakes

Heart:  SU Owl Punch

I'm including this card in the following challenges:
The Paper Players:  #89 Tickle Your Funny Bone
Shopping our Stash:  Punch it Out
Ditzy Crafty Mess:  Baby Theme
